MEMBERS of Axbridge Town Council agreed to allocate £5,000 towards new lighting on the church steps and Back Lane footway.
The council has already secured a grant from Sedgemoor Area Working Panel for £6,500 towards the improvements.
Residents have been concerned about poor lighting in both areas of the town for years.
At its meeting on Monday, the council agreed to push ahead with the plans in the next financial year.
