A SOMERSET group is celebrating this week after receiving a major cash boost towards a skate park.Cheddar Local Action Team (LAT) has received a £10,000 donation from Lord Bath towards the project to build the park at Sharpham Playing Fields. LAT chairman Jill Male said: "The skate park will cost £160,000 so we still obviously have a long way to go, but it is a very generous donation. Once it is built, the skate park will be one of the best in the West and could be a major tourist attraction for the village. Hopefully, national and international skating competitions will be held there."We have lots of fund-raising ideas and have entered a team in this year's Dragon Boat Race at Cheddar Reservoir."Anyone wishing to sponsor the team for the boat race, which will be held on June 23, can call Jill on 01934 740358. The group also runs drop-in sessions for youths every Tuesday night, but as of next week the meetings will be held at the Methodist Church in Cliff Street instead of Hannah More Cottage. Session times have also changed. Youngsters aged nine to 13 are welcome 7-8.30pm and teenagers aged 14-17 can attend the session from 8.30-9.30pm. The sessions are held every Tuesday to offer youngsters the chance to play games, socialise and try some tasty treats at the tuck shop.
