BURNHAM'S town centre will be getting a face-lift, thanks to a £430,000 cash award. Two years ago Burnham's Chamber of Trade and Commerce created a vision to transform the centre and revamp the town. The plans are concentrated on Victoria Street, High Street and the Pier Street and seafront area. The Regeneration Partnership chairman Mike Murphy wants to create a 'cultural quarter' and attract more visitors to Burnham. He said: "At the moment we are extremely delighted with news that we will be receiving the money and we are looking forward to the go-ahead."The future development will include quality shops appealing to niche markets and a wider range of businesses for shoppers to browse. The funds will be used to take designs and proposals to the final quotation stage. This is the stage when the cost of the development can be accurately calculated. When they are complete, they will be ready to go to tender and further funds can then be accessed. The news was announced by Mr Murphy after talks with the South West Regional Development Agency. SWRDA told Mr Murphy it would be committed to the project at Burnham and was dedicated to the regeneration of the popular seaside town. Mr Murphy added: "We are very positive and pleased to be part of this scheme. This is a very exciting time for Burnham.
