FED-UP residents say parts of Weston's biggest housing estate are 'dangerous and unsightly' - and a leading councillor says its design is flawed. The Moor Lane Action Group says the area in Locking Castle has been left full of potholes, with little street lighting and is hazardous to walkers and motorists. The group, made up of residents, claims open ditches are filling up with water and rubbish. Members say it is only a matter of time before a child drowns.A petition signed by scores of people was handed to North Somerset Council at a meeting on June 6.Action group member Sally Howse, who has lived in The Seven Acres for three years, said: "Moor Lane is supposed to be closed off from Longridge Way and only open to buses. But it is still a complete eyesore."When we bought our houses here we were told the area would be landscaped properly. But still there is no street lighting and open ditches 10 feet wide."The area is the responsibility of the developers, Locking Castle Consortium, until it is finished, when it will be adopted by North Somerset Council.Councillor Muriel Kraft said: "It should have been finished a long time ago. There are temporary crossings on the road that need to be removed before permission for the landscaping can be given. I have been nagging the developers for over 18 months but they have kept making excuses. "It's time North Somerset got tough and told them enough is enough."Locking Castle project director David Priest said: "We submitted plans two weeks ago for approval to remove temporary crossings on the road used when building the houses."And we submitted plans for the landscaping and street lighting a while ago. I hear what the residents are saying, but now we're waiting for planners to give us the permission before we can do anything more."I would have anticipated this being done earlier but there is no specific time scale for the project. I'm more than happy to meet with people to discuss this."Cllr Elfan Ap Rees is calling for the design of housing estates in Weston to be changed in the future. He said: "The estate is a labyrinth of unsigned no through roads and cul-de-sacs. The whole issue of the design and pedestrian access on such estates needs to be reviewed.
