A WINSCOMBE woman enjoyed a champagne celebration for her 100th birthday with her family and friends.

Stella Winniford Ebsworth was born in Gloucester but now lives in the Acer House Care Home in Weston’s Milton Road.

She became a primary school teacher and taught pupils around Birmingham and Bristol until the Second World War.

She met her husband Donald in 1936 and they moved to Bristol in 1939 where they had two sons, Paul and Martin. The couple retired to Winscombe in 1976 and spent many happy years living together until her husband died four years ago.

She has been very involved in the village arts clubs and Sandford Gardening Club, and was also a warden at St James’ Church.

Stella has only been in the care home since October, managing to live independently until then.

She turned 100 on June 8.
