A NEW leader for the opposition at Somerset County Council has been announced, while other changes to the shadow cabinet will take place.

A new Liberal Democrat group leader was set to be announced as the Mercury went to print, with Cllr Sam Crabb set to step into the role.

Cllr Ross Henley will become deputy leader of the group, and will also be spokesman for resources.

Cllr Kim Turner will be spokesman for children and young people; Cllr Dave Greene for highways and human resources; Cllr Gloria Cawood for community; and Cllr John Bailey for strategic planning and economic development.

Cllr Jill Shortland is stepping down as leader, but will continue in a national role at the Local Government Association and the County Council Network.
