A VOLUNTEER ambulance service this week celebrated 10 years of saving lives and protecting people in Weston.

Wessex Ambulance Service, a charity which provides ambulances and first aid response staff to events such as firework displays, sports matches and horse trials, has been running since 2002.

Members met at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre on Monday – where they train each week – to celebrate the milestone.

Each of the service’s nine volunteers are trained in first aid and each ambulance at an event provides at least two people trained in first person on the scene (FPOS) procedure.

Chairman Barrie Sleeman said: “We are always looking for new people to come and join our team.

“You don’t need to know anything about first aid, all you need to do is turn up and we will train you.”
