Fire crews have been tackling a major fire for more than five hours near Cheddar this morning (Thursday).
A crew from Cheddar received a call at 2.40am to Tynings Lane, in Charterhouse, after reports of a large fire at a two-storey workshop.
Eight fire crews from across Avon and Devon were called out to assist.
Fire crews are making steady progress with the fire and at 7am, the incident was scaled down to three crews.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “This is an ongoing incident and crews will continue to dampen down hotspots.
“Due to a large smoke plume from this incident, people within the area are being advised to keep their windows and doors closed.”
Fire crews extinguished the blaze at 1.11pm.
A spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: “This fire was in a commercial property consisting of one floor measuring approximately 35m by 15m used as a wood shavings processing plant.
“The fire was located in the packing area. The structure of the building was severely damaged by fire while the inside and contents were completely destroyed.
“The crews used eight breathing apparatus, two main jets, one compressed air foam jet, one light portable pump and drag forks. An onsite digger was also used to assist firefighters.”
