A YOUTH hostel in Cheddar is set for a major revamp.

A £150,000 modernisation scheme has been given the go-ahead as part of a £10million spend across the country.

The Youth Hostel Association runs the facility in The Hayes, a large stone-built Victorian house which provides almost 6,500 overnight stays each year. The building will now be upgraded to extend sleeping capacity from 45 to 56.

Work is expected to start in January and the hostel will be open to the public from April.
