A Somerset parish council has been presented with an award for one of its facilities.

Cheddar Parish Council was handed the award for Playing Field of the Year for its Sharpham Road sports facilities from the Somerset Playing Fields Association.

The charity aims to help and support communities in Somerset to provide good quality outdoor facilities.

This year was the first time the council had entered and it was presented with the Healey Trophy from Lord Lieutenant of Somerset Annie Maw.

Chairman of the council’s Highways and Open Spaces Committee, Cllr Martin Kay, said: “It is great to have received this award in recognition of this great facility with have in Cheddar.”

Sharpham Road fields provide pitches for football, cricket and rugby, tennis courts, and a skate park.

There is also a recently-installed children’s’ play area with additional outdoor fitness equipment.
