An alleged child rapist accused of a string of sex offences against a girl in Portishead has denied all charges.

Tattooed Stephen Thompson is accused of raping a girl under the age of 14 and molesting her between May 1978 and August 1988.

The 44-year-old, of Marine Parade, Pill, replied "not guilty" to four charges of rape and five charges of indecency with a child under the age of 14 years when he appeared in the dock at Bristol Crown Court last Friday (Feb 8).

Thompson, who was smartly dressed in a short-sleeved black shirt and sported a tattoo of a guitar on one arm, was then released on bail by Judge John Foley on the condition he did not contact the complainant.

He will return to the court to stand trial on a date to be fixed.
