THE achievements of hundreds of young people from across North Somerset were celebrated at a special event this week.
The fifth North Somerset Youth Service Awards were held at the Winter Gardens in Weston on Tuesday night.
The event was opened by the chairman of North Somerset Council, Councillor Ann Harley, and celebrated the achievements of more than 300 young people.
The North Somerset Jazz Orchestra greeted guests on arrival, vocalists from Banwell Music Project, Audacity Dance Group from Portishead Youth Centre and performers from the rock and dance academy from both Weston Youth Centre and Portishead Youth Centre all provided performances.
The gala event was well supported by parents and local dignitaries and Cllr Jeremy Blatchford, North Somerset Council’s executive member for children and young people’s services, said: “What a fantastic way to celebrate.
“These are young people who have shown they have achieved things helping to establish firm foundations for their future.
“It was a fitting way to honour them, their families and our youth workers who have helped guide them to their successes.”
Young people received awards for their own personal achievements, as well as demonstrating their commitment to making a difference in their local communities.
