Young people from Congresbury have been honoured with a top community accolade.

A handful of selected children and young people from Congresbury were nominated by various youth groups for making an outstanding contribution to the village.

The awards ceremony was hosted by Congresbury Youth Partnership.

In 2010 the partnership’s organiser Tony Sullivan died and the awards have since been set up in his name.

Their aim is to recognise a young person from each of the village’s organisations who has made an outstanding contribution to the village.

Organisations wich nominated children included the church’s youth group, the girl guides, rainbows, beavers, brownies, youth club, youth partnership, cricket club, scouts and cubs.

Awards were given to 11 children and this year’s event was sponsored by the Yeo Valley Lions.

The children also heard a speech from Claire Payne from Voluntary Action North Somerset, who spoke about volunteering.
