Children in Somerset 'do not get their fair share' says MP

Wells MP James Heappey has this week challenged the Government on the amount of funding schools receive in Somerset.
Mr Heappey – whose constituency includes Burnham and Highbridge – addressed Government plans to establish a national schools funding formula, but stressed the need for more support in Somerset.
He said: “I visit a school or two almost every week and see how lucky we are to have such fantastic schools in our county.
“But our teachers and school governors cannot continue to deliver this outstanding education while being funded so poorly in comparison to other parts of the country.
“We have had some great victories already but the simple fact is that our children don’t get their fair share of the education budget. It is long overdue that this is put right.”
