Children from Chernobyl got to see the sea for the first time thanks to Weston-super-Mare Lions Club.
The club worked with the Children of Chernobyl charity project to bring 12 youngsters from the devastated area of Eastern Europe to Weston.
In 1986, the worst nuclear accident in history claimed many lives at a power plant in Chernobyl in Ukraine, while others continue to be affected. The Children of Chernobyl brings youngsters from some of the worst affected areas to the UK.
During their visit they are given medical checks, with evidence showing their month in the UK helps to strengthen their weak immune systems.
But there is plenty of time for fun too and, and for many, it was their first time seeing the sea.
Weston Lions Club co-ordinated the youngsters’ trip, which saw them visit the Seaquarium, enjoy a donkey ride, go to the Grand Pier and ride on the Weston Wheel.
