A NEW family 'one-stop shop' aimed at improving facilities for parents and their children will open in Weston town centre later this year.The £110,000 children's centre, which has been funded by North Somerset Council, will be situated in a refurbished former fruit and vegetable shop in Meadow Street and will consist of a reception area, two activity rooms and a kitchen.Project manager Mark Graham said: "The centre is a place for parents to go for any kind of information they need on parenting or parenting support."The rooms in the building will be used for a number of activities like ante-natal and post-natal classes, sessions on parenting skills and to provide day care and crche facilities."The centre will be one of 11 across North Somerset which will provide a range of services to parents including pre-school sessions, child day care, playgroups, health information, family support services and help for children starting school.North Somerset councillor Peter Kehoe, who is responsible for Children and Young People's Services, said: "The centre will provide a one-stop shop for children and parents and will give improved access to services for families."The centre will also be able to offer links to other service providers and give advice to parents on issues such as training, education and returning to work."Work will begin on the refurbishment of the building, pictured below at the end of June, and the centre is expected to open in September 2007.
