Part of a children’s play area was ‘deliberately’ set on fire causing up to £1,500 worth of damage.

The park, in Walford Avenue, St Georges, was targeted by vandals at 9.10pm on Friday night.

Avon Fire and Rescue was called to the park after a bench and plastic matting were set alight.

One crew from Weston put out the blaze.

An Avon and Somerset Constabulary spokesman said it caused between £1,000 and £1,500 worth of damage to the park, which is owned by North Somerset Council.

This is the second time in three months the equipment has been damaged, as some of the tunnels and plastic seats were set alight in July.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting the reference number 52162 35057.
