CRIMES committed against Chinese people living in Weston are going undetected - because of the language barrier between them and the police.Police suspect people working in Chinese takeaways, restaurants and shops are suffering high volumes of crimes like assaults and criminal damage and either cannot or do not know how to contact the emergency services.Officers believe most of the racial attacks are taking place late at night, often in takeaways. To try to combat the problems the police have launched a new initiative with charity SARI (Support Against Racist Incidents). The two groups will be handing out Chinese Emergency Reporting Cards to Chinese families in Weston that describe what they should do in an emergency. The police are also trying to get Chinese people to preserve evidence after a crime and officers have also given them a list of simple phrases translated into English.
