A CLEVEDON man is to compete in a race to the North Pole.Chris Wilkinson has secured a place on the Brass Monkeys team for the 2007 Polar Race.The challenge starts on April 7 when six teams will race on foot or ski from Resolute Bay in the former North West Territories of Canada, some 350 miles to the finish line at the last officially certified position of the North Pole on Ellef Ringnes Island. Competitors will be expected to manhaul their food and equipment on sledges behind them. The race is expected to take 60 days and competitors are expected to fend for themselves in temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees celsius.The Polar Race was founded by two of Britain's leading modern day adventurers, David Hempleman-Adams and Jock Wishart.
