A new mayor took the reigns of a Somerset town in a special ceremony this week.

Church bells rang out across Axbridge Town Square on Monday as mayor Ian Laken handed the chains to Pauline Ham at a ceremony in the Town Hall, in The Square.

Barbara Wells took over as the deputy mayor for 2017-18, supporting Cllr Ham in her duties.

Town crier Nigel Scott took to the streets of Axbridge to formally announce the new mayor.

More than 40 people attended the Town Hall ceremony for the handover.
