A new debt counselling service is set to be launched in Weston, which will offer free advice to people with financial difficulties.

Destiny Church, based in Weston, has teamed up with the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) charity, which works with the Church to provide help to those in poverty, or who have found themselves in unmanageable debt.

The charity will now be able to visit people at their homes in Weston, Worle and the surrounding areas of Milton, Hutton, Locking and Banwell.

CAP centre manager for Weston, Paul Larcombe, said: “The Church has always been about offering hope and we’re really pleased to be able to give a tried-and-tested route out of debt, alongside other great free debt advice in the area like Citizens Advice. There is a lot in the Bible about looking after the poorest.

“In our society, a lot of poverty is debt-related so our churches have been working hard to open a CAP centre to help get people back on track. We’re just so pleased to be able to partner the care of our church with the financial expertise of CAP.”

The official launch of the centre will take place on Sunday at 3pm at Priory School in Worle.

The CAP welcomes anyone with financial issues to attend and will take care of all negotiations with creditors, until the person is completely debt-free.
