MEMORIAL inspections are to take place at a Portishead church next month.North Somerset Council will be re-inspecting memorials which showed signs of fatigue during a check 18 months ago at St Peter's Church closed churchyard.Since 2005 the authority has been granted permission from the Diocese of Bath and Wells to inspect memorials and ensure they have not become a risk to safety. The council will re-inspect memorials which are cracked and have loose brickwork to ensure that they have not deteriorated any further and become unsafe due to weathering. The inspections will be held during the week of December 3.Memorials which are found to be unsafe will either be laid down flat or supported with stakes and notices about the inspections will be displayed at the churchyard.Members of the public and parishioners are welcome to visit the churchyard while inspections take place.Should any residents have any concerns about the inspection they can contact Pauline Pearce at the council's streets and open spaces service on 01934 888802.
