Plans to build homes on the site of a former factory and nearby fields have been scaled down following criticism.

Newland Homes wants to knock down the old UTC Aerospace Systems Factory in Claverham and replace it with housing.

A neighbourhood plan supported the idea, but development on adjoining fields was not.

Newland had wanted to build on the May Day Field by the village hall and on green fields to the north of the factory.

However both ideas have now been scrapped.

Newland came under pressure to revise its scheme at a Yatton Parish Council meeting last month and on Wednesday it confirmed the changes.

About 70 homes are planned for the factory site, opposite Court de Wyck Primary School, plus restoration work to two listed buildings.

It will need planning permission before development can proceed.
