BUSINESS leaders in Portishead are pressing North Somerset to spend more pennies on cleaning up the town's toilets.Portishead Chamber of Trade and Commerce chairman Ron Hazelton said the public conveniences in the town - especially at the Lake Grounds - were disgusting.Mr Hazelton said: "The toilets in the town are a disgrace, particularly the facilities at the Lake Grounds."I think probably the last time they were cleaned was before I was born."I don't think they have ever seen a mop or a brush."We need the council to lean on the contractor and get the contractor to lean on a brush to get these issues sorted out."Local resident Reyna Knight told the council she had conducted a survey of all the public conveniences in the town and she would be presenting the results shortly.Councillors have already raised concerns about the state of the toilets and general cleanliness of the town with North Somerset officers.North Somerset Council spokesman Richard Turner said: "The toilets at the Lake Grounds are cleaned three times a day. We will send someone to inspect them following this complaint.
