AN UNLIKELY double act has become best friends at an animal rescue centre in East Huntspill. Cliff the goat kid and Socks the collie pup have become inseparable after Cliff was rescued from Cheddar Gorge. Two visitors found the new-born out in the gorge, with no sign of his mother. The orphaned goat was taken to Secret World Animal Rescue Centre, where he made friends with one of the carer's dogs. Cliff, named after the place he was spotted, has now become a firm friend of Socks, an 18-month-old collie cross, owned by animal care manager Ellie West. Ellie said: "Cliff is fed milk every three hours and is taken for walks out on the field. He loves to follow Socks around and the two have become quite close. Cliff is really friendly and loves to follow people around."Ellie, aged 25, has worked at the centre for 11 years, after enjoying a work experience placement and visits as a teenager. Ellie added: "When we got Cliff he was very tiny and had only just been born, so it was rare to find him without his mother. We don't know what has happened to her. It could be that she was nearby, but now he has been touched by humans we cannot put Cliff back out into the wild. We will raise him here and when he is old enough we are hoping to find him a friend."The centre will be open to the public from Good Friday until Easter Monday for their Badger Bonanza weekend from 10am - 4pm. Visitors can also meet Cliff during the event.
