EMERGENCY services carried out a cliff rescue last night (Wednesday) at Cheddar Gorge in order to treat an injured woman.

At about 6.15pm, police and fire crews joined forces with paramedics to assist the Avon and Somerset Cliff Rescue team.

The young woman, who is believed to have been climbing, sustained head, knee and back injuries but was moving and conscious at the scene.

A fire crew from Cheddar, crews from Bridgwater and firefighters from Wells joined the specialist rescue team to assist with the rescue.

The firefighters used ladders and safety equipment to secure the casualty, before the rescue team began slowly moving her.

After an hour and a half, crews managed to safely get the casualty back to ground level on a stretcher, before she was taken to Weston General Hospital.
