REVELLERS should hand over a £50 deposit for damage before entering Weston nightclubs, a leading councillor says.In a letter to the Weston & Somerset Mercury and others, North Somerset Council chairman Councillor Roz Willis said the idea would cut binge drinking and antisocial behaviour. She said: "I would like to see nightclubs take a £50 deposit from each customer on the door."This will be returned on leaving if they have not become worse for drink or caused trouble or damage."It has been introduced in other areas and proven to have worked. I would like to see this introduced around the area and in particular in Weston. Any money kept can be used to pay for damage and any extra policing needed. If money is left over each year end it could be donated to charities."Louis and Andreas Macrides own six Weston bars and clubs. Louis said: "Everyone would refuse to pay the money and would be quite offended. I don't think people should have to pay a penny deposit."There are incidents in or outside bars, but the majority of bars don't have incidents. The new licensing laws are very tight and problems are nipped in the bud quickly now."* Hannah Steer, aged 19, of The Cornfields, Wick St Lawrence, said: "It would cause too much hassle, the queues would be much longer and you have to pay to get in anyway."Jemma Granger-Ball, aged 19, of Clevedon, said: "How would you get it back? Its not practical."* Shane Kenny, pictured below, aged 18, of Linden Avenue, Weston, said: "Maybe they could give a warning to people who make trouble, then they would have to pay the deposit after that. It's not right for everyone to have to pay.
