CLEVEDON could soon have its very own coach park.North Somerset Council officers are to start investigating the possibility of providing a coach park in the seaside town.Work will now also start on drawing up a list of possible sites for a facility.Town councillors have been campaigning for a coach park in the seaside resort for years and are delighted a search for a site is now getting under way.Clevedon town councillor Trevor Morgan said: "This is a facility which the town council has been wanting for many years."By providing a coach park it will make it far easier for visitors on organised tours to visit the town which will be good for the local economy."At the same time as we are looking at providing a coach park it would be a good idea if consideration could be given to overnight lorry parking as there is nowhere in the town at the moment."Many years ago coach drivers used to park on land opposite The Hawthorns, but this had to stop when the hotel was developed.North Somerset executive member for transport and planning, John Crockford-Hawley said: "I have asked council officers to begin investigating the issue of providing a coach park in Clevedon."I also understand there are one or two councillors who are also coming up with ideas as to what and where may be a suitable site."At the moment coach visitors to Clevedon get dropped off and picked up while the driver goes back to the motorway services until he returns to collect them."At present, no sites have been identified, but this is something we want to do this year."Before any decision is made on a site there will be thorough consultation with local business, the town council, district councillors and local people."Mr Crockford-Hawley said he would like to hear from any North Somerset Times readers who have suggestions as to where a coach park could be sited. He added: "If anyone has any ideas, I would be more than happy to hear from them."Mr Crockford-Hawley can be contacted via North Somerset Council at the Town Hall in Weston-super-Mare.
