Six charities will share a £40,000 windfall, thanks to the fundraising efforts of a Weston-super-Mare firm in its 40th anniversary year.
Five staff from fit-out contractor County Contractors swapped their hard hats for cycle helmets to complete a challenging 260-mile coast-to-coast bike ride from Kent to Weston.
The three-day ride was the highlight of the firm’s 40 For 40! fundraising drive which aims to raise £40,000 in celebration of its 40 years in business to support Weston General Hospital’s scanner appeal, Cancer Research UK, Alzheimer’s Research UK, Guide Dogs, West of England Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre, and Weston Hospicecare.
Peter Mercer, who took part in the ride, said: “This fundraiser is all about County Contractors giving something back to the community on the occasion of our 40th anniversary.
“We’ve always actively helped charitable causes and engaged with our local community to provide support for those who are disadvantaged in some way.
“With 40 For 40! we want to extend that support and rally our business contacts to give our largest contribution yet to six charities that have each touched, and benefitted, the lives of our staff or their loved ones.
“The ride was tough going but great fun, and we all just kept peddling in the knowledge that our efforts were raising much-needed funds for great causes.”
County Contractors chairman Ray Heathman said: “My thanks to Kevin, Pete, Roger, Jamie and Paul for their commitment to the cause, and completing the enduring 260-mile cycle ride; without your effort this would not have been possible.”
