COASTGUARD crews closed off a section of beach to search for a missing person yesterday (Mon).

A beach warden at Brean found a pile of clothes and possessions on the sands in suspicious circumstances and raised the alarm at about 12.45pm.

Police were also called to the scene while 14 members of the Burnham Coastguard and volunteers from Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) searched the area for several hours.

No-one was found and the teams were stood down, but police investigations are on-going.
