A coastguard crew was called to help people walking in soft mud on the beach in Burnham-on-Sea yesterday (Sunday).

The Burnham Coastguard Rescue Team was alerted to a group of people who were at the water’s edge causing concern for their safety.

The group made their own way back and the crew issued safety advice.

A coastguard spokesman said: “With the tide low and the temperature high it can seem like a good idea to dip your toes in the water.

“But if you have to cross wet sloppy mud to reach it then you should turn back immediately.

“The beach is very soft in lots of places at the moment and the mud patches are really prominent.”
