A man found passed out in a bush after narrowly avoiding a 'catastrophic fall' had to be rescued by a coastguard crew yesterday (Sunday).

Burnham-on-Sea Coastguard Rescue Team was called to Brean Down at about 12.15pm to help a semi-conscious man who was found in a bramble bush after a night of drinking.

Walkers who found the man had given him some water to rehydrate during one of the hottest days of the year, but the crew took him to safety at the bottom of the down.

A spokesman said: “This was a lucky escape for the person in question as he was attempting to follow the lights on the beach which led him to almost falling off the edge of the down.

“This could have resulted in a catastrophic fall – a bramble bush in this instance was the best outcome.”
