A Weston College student is taking on the Weston Colour Run in aid of the charity which cared for her terminally-ill father.

Jess Saundry, aged 26, will take on the 5km run in aid of Weston Hospicecare, after the hospice looked after her father Alan at the end of his life.

The event, which is now in its third year, is being held on Weston’s seafront on April 24 and will see runners pass through five specially-prepared stations, where they will be showered in coloured powder paint.

Jess’ father died in 2013 and she felt taking part in the Colour Run with her partner Chris Ohman would be a fitting way to honour his memory.

She said: “The hospice made life as normal as possible – we couldn’t have done it without them. It was as peaceful as it could be

“The community team made an incredible impact on my dad’s end-of-life care. The community nurse who was assigned to us was someone I could talk to when I was finding caring for Dad too much.

“She even made my dad comfortable with simple things like oxygen therapy, medication and ideas for getting him out of the house with the help of medication and equipment.”

Places are still available for this year’s Colour Run, which starts at 2pm, and people can register to take part by logging on to the Colour Run website or calling 01934 423960. The closing date for entries is April 17.
