A CAMPAIGN to restore Birnbeck Pier has gained support from a celebrity fan.
Comedian Justin Lee Collins has pledged his support to the Birnbeck Regeneration Trust, which is battling to secure millions of pounds in funding to transform the crumbling structure into a Victorian-style pier.
Mr Collins paid a visit to the pier on Saturday, where he met members of the trust and spent time in the Pier View cafe.
He said: “As a boy growing up in Bristol, Weston was a home from home. I have so many happy memories of spending school holidays there with my grandma.
“As an adult, I now bring my boys to this beautiful town and the happy memories continue.
“(On television) I have brought back Star Wars, Star Trek, The A Team and Dallas – now it’s time to bring back Birnbeck Pier.”
Meanwhile, a paint jam in aid of the trust showcasing the work of local street artists will be held at the pier at 10am on Saturday and Sunday.
