A VANDALISED community centre could be shut down if no cash is found to revamp it - according to a North Somerset councillor.Councillor Astra Brand, who lives in Castle Batch, says the building off Magdalen Way is being repeatedly attacked by youths who terrorise groups meeting there. She said: "The situation at Castle Batch Community Centre has got even worse over the last year. Very few people want to use it because they are disturbed by vandals who create havoc there."If we don't get any funding to help improve the area a closure could be on the cards. I am in touch with the local authority and the funds just aren't available."There is money on offer from the town council, but only if we can set up a community association of six to eight people to run the centre. I'm hoping to have an open day in February to meet with people who might be able help."If the community centre can run properly we can hold classes there and we could even open up a youth coffee bar so kids who have nothing to do can have somewhere to meet and chat."Castle Batch Community Centre has been a constant target for yobs in recent years.Previously, the Weston & Somerset Mercury reported how mums attending the Ready Steady Go pre-school encountered broken glass, empty alcohol bottles and dog mess strewn all over the car park and play area. In August last year the barrier across the car park had to be closed to stop boy racers using it.
