AN ENGINEERING company in Weston has won a multi-million pound contract with Land Rover.Under the £25million five-year contract, MCT Mitchell Cotts, based in Winterstoke Road, will make V8 engines for the four-wheel drive vehicles. It will be the official supplier to Land Rover for the V8 engine and will provide parts specifically for the type.Around 70 per cent of Land Rovers made since 1948 that use the V8 engine are still in use, so maintaining the engines is big business. The V8 powers the Land Rover Defender, Discovery, Range Rover and TVR. The engine production has been relocated from Solihull to Weston after Ford closed its production line and MCT beat off global competition to win the contract. The V8 engine contract will safeguard around 200 jobs at the site.An MCT spokesman said: "MCT has transformed itself in the past couple of years with a new management team. It has been strongly looking to do this type of work. "Land Rover has decided to sub-contract this part of production and MCT has won the contract. "It's a great achievement to win it and will provide parts for Land Rover dealers around the world."MCT also provides parts for Mitsubishi, Isuzu and LDV.
