Villagers joined forces to celebrate ahead of the arrival of an elite sporting event this week, which saw some of the world’s best cyclists do battle in their streets.

The Tour of Britain visited Congresbury on Tuesday, with a star-studded field luring hundreds of people to line the streets as the riders raced to Bristol.

Villagers toasted the visit of the best riders on the planet with a fun day on Sunday.

Villagers flocked to the Millennium Green to take part in a range of games and challenges on two wheels, with excitement high before the race.

A keenly-contested sprint challenge saw people showcase their speed, and children displayed their creativity in a bike decorating competition.

The event was organised by Congresbury Parish Council, which hoped to capitalise on the rare opportunity to enjoy elite sport on its doorstep.

The Strawberry Line Café, in Yatton, organised a pop-up café on the day of the race to provide refreshments for spectators.

Many people gathered on the side of the road to enjoy the food and watch the race.
