Plans for more than 20 homes near a ‘dangerous’ junction have been criticised by councillors.

Congresbury Parish Council’s planning committee called for Freemantle Developments’ proposal for 21 houses in Smallway to be torn up.

Freemantle already has planning permission for 21 homes on an adjacent parcel of land, but the parish council holds pedestrian safety fears.

The Smallway junction was described as ‘the most dangerous in North Somerset’ by North Somerset Cllr David Shopland at a planning meeting on October 10, which saw an application for a GP surgery opposite Cadbury Garden Centre refused due to safety concerns.

The parish council’s statement said: “There are major unresolved highways issues for pedestrians and motorists.

“North Somerset (Council) needs to assess the road conditions and pedestrian access to Congresbury village.”
