A day of activities has been arranged for by villagers to celebrate the arrival of some of the best athletes in the world.

Riders taking on the Tour of Britain race will speed through Congresbury on September 4, and a pre-tour party will be held at the Millennium Green, off Bristol Road, on September 2 from 2.30-4.30pm.

Games and competitions for children will be held, and villagers will have the chance to showcase their speed on two wheels in a sprint challenge.

Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas and Team Sky teammate Chris Froome will be among the elite riders tackling the 128-km stage, set to be cheered on by thousands of fans at North Somerset’s roadsides.

The race will also take in the sights and sounds of Yatton, Cheddar Shipham and Churchill.
