A ‘critical phase’ looms for Congresbury’s new village hall project, with almost £200,000 needed to deliver ‘desperately-needed’ facilities.

An 80-strong team of villagers has raised more than £70,000 so far, with £8,200 accrued in 2017, but at least £180,000 more must be raised before the project can get off the ground.

Villagers will be invited in the coming weeks to pledge money towards the new facility, which the project team believes Congresbury ‘desperately needs’.

Ian Sheppard, of the project team, said: “We have set a target of the community investing £400,000 in the building; the absolute minimum that must be raised will be £250,000.

“Once the required amount in pledges is raised, main grant applications can begin.”

A race night in aid of the project will be held at the Old School Rooms, in Station Road, on February 24.

Tickets, priced £5, are available from 07814 155703.
