A new doctors’ surgery for Congresbury and Yatton is closer to being materialised, with formal plans due to be submitted in the coming weeks.

Mendip Vale Medical Practice hopes to build a new ‘larger surgery’ in Smallway, and executive manager David Clark revealed to a patient participation group a plans will be submitted by the end of September.

At the current surgery, the delivery of care is ‘inhibited due to the restrictive nature of the premises’, which is more than 30 per cent below the recommended size for the number of patients.

Mr Clark said: “A larger surgery will provide sufficient space for our patients’ clinical needs.

“In recent years, demand for appointments has grown and we have found it difficult to match supply with demand.”

Mr Clark said the practice plans to employ additional medical staff, which would ‘reduce the pressure on local A&E departments and urgent care centres’.
