People have been invited to give their views on a consultation about extending conservation areas in Weston.

North Somerset Council is considering merging the conservation areas in Weston into one larger one.

It will be subdivided into four different character areas and will be extended to the town centre and residential areas around Ellenborough and Clarence Park.

A conservation area applies to a zone considered worthy of preservation or enhancement because of its historical interest.

Deputy council leader Elfan Ap Rees said: “When you really look at many of the buildings in and around the town centre you can begin to appreciate the wealth of our local architecture. We need to retain this history while still moving forward with the town regeneration.”

The consultation is available online at www.n-somerset.gov.uk until October 7 and a focused workshop will be held on Tuesday from 5.30-7.30pm at Weston Museum in Burlington Street.
