Contract for 4,200 homes

SEDGEMOOR'S social housing provider has been awarded a new 30-year contract to manage the council's 4,200 homes.
The district council’s executive committee approved the deal last week to keep Homes In Sedgemoor providing housing services until 2044, following a ‘tenant led’ housing review which took place last year.
Under the terms of the deal, the company will also be able to build and manage new properties, and work with the council to create savings where possible.
More than 3,000 properties have been improved by Homes In Sedgemoor since it was established in 2007, with the company helping to access a £25million government pot three years ago to upgrade the district’s housing stock.
Sedgemoor District Council leader Duncan McGinty said: “Tenants’ views have been central to the review process and it was clear from the outset that they wanted Homes In Sedgemoor to continue the management of their homes.
“The council is very much looking forward to working with Homes In Sedgemoor and tenants in the continuation of what has been a genuine partnership, to deliver more council homes and additional services for our tenants.”
Homes In Sedgemoor is currently on the shortlist for a National Housing Federation award to recognise its work in getting young people into employment.
