CONCERNS about how people are supposed to get to Weston General Hospital have been raised after First West of England announced it will be cancelling its number five service at the end of August.
Colin S started a thread on Streetlife and said: “It looks like we are to lose the number five bus that goes to the hospital. This will affect all of the elderly and visitors to Weston General Hospital in Upper Worle, Weston Hillside and Milton.”
Christine said ‘everyone who does not have a car’ will be at a disadvantage and Maureen B agreed, adding: “Even if you have a car it costs quite a lot to park there so the bus is easier.”
Heather W, who used to work at the hospital, said: “I was quite shocked to find the evening buses had stopped.
“I relied on the last couple of buses to get me home after a late shift, if I was still there I suppose I would have to find a cab fare.”
Nigel T said although it is a ‘shame’ the service will be stopped, he has witnessed buses driving with ‘as few as two inside’ and suggested that ‘they run a smaller bus on the route in quieter periods’.
The Ghost pointed out that Crosville will be running the same half-hourly service as they normally do, and said: “If the buses are not running even half full then they are not cost effective to run.”
