A NEW clock for Pier Square is one idea being floated to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.
North Somerset councillor Mike Bell has suggested a landmark timepiece be installed at the recently developed seafront area.
The area’s former clock, which used to stand next to the Tourist Information Centre, remains in storage.
Cllr Bell said: “There has been a clock in and around Pier Square for many years and I want to put forward that we should put in a new clock in Pier Square to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee next year. I think the town should do something to mark the event and a nice way to do it might be to fund-raise for a new landmark clock for Pier Square.
“I’ll be putting the idea to Weston Town Council in the hope that they will get behind it, but I’d welcome views from residents and businesses.”
Earlier this year, North Somerset Council’s deputy leader Elfan Ap Rees said he was making inquires as to where the former Pier Square clock could go.
The clock, however, remains in storage at the council’s Sandford depot.
