Readers discuss new Tropicana pool plans

Readers have reacted to news the Tropicana is again being considered as a site for Weston's second swimming pool, but councillors warn it could cost as much as £30milliion.
North Somerset Council's deputy leader Mike Bell has revealed the former lido is one of the options being considered by the authority as it seeks to satisfy the town's shortage of leisure facilities.
A new swimming pool has long been on the council's agenda, with the previous administration - which was defeated in May's elections - announcing proposals for a second pool at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre in 2015.
But, despite assertions at the time, no firm plans were created and the council is no closer to splashing out on a new pool four years later, although the new administration has begun assessing its options.
Sam Leadbeater Definitely said: "I helped protest not to have the Tropicana pulled down a few years ago, we desperately need a pool on our seafront for the tourist trade and to stop them from getting stranded in the mud.
"There was so much more going on for everyone when I was younger, now the town centre is run down and don't even get me started on Birnbeck Pier."
Graham Morrissey added: "All they need is a decent outdoor pool, nothing fancy and with a retractable roof for all weather use.
"Portishead Lido has done fantastically well."
Pam Davies commented: "I was gutted when this closed as a pool and wanted it back for many years.
"I do however now feel that the different events it's home to is may be a better alternative.
"An outdoor pool may only be used for a few months of the year, where the likes of a fun fair, gigs and ice rinks have more appeal to me now."
Paul Hatton said: "Bridgwater had a pool with slides and a wave machine, it had a roof, and a gymnasium and it was always packed.
"It closed because it cost too much to run.
"The Tropicana will never open as a pool.
"It will never be a 5,000-seat music venue, or a bowling alley, or an ice skating rink 'other than at Christmas', or anything more than it is now.
" I don't believe there is anyone fool enough to throw any money at a crumbling building on Weston seafront."
