THE chief executive of North Somerset Council showed his support for Burnham Area Rescue Boat (BARB) by joining the charity’s annual general meeting.

Graham Turner joined 40 people at Burnham’s Town Council Chambers, in Jaycroft Road, to hear about a busy year for the life-saving charity.

Mr Turner told the audience he hoped the visit would create even stronger links between Burnham and North Somerset and was given a tour of the seafront hovercraft station.

He also heard how a new hovercraft will replace the Light Of Elizabeth vessel, which has been heavily used for five years for training and rescue, and the charity has met its £30,000 annual running costs.
