Council complaint dismissed

ALLEGATIONS of ‘misconduct’ levelled at 58 of North Somerset’s 61 councillors have been dismissed by standards investigators.

The Mercury reported two weeks ago how former councillor Bob Coleman had lodged a formal complaint over the way the authority had handled waste monitoring legislation back in 2008.

However, the allegations have now been assessed by a complaints panel, and have been rejected.

Council solicitor Fiona Robertson said: “(The panel) concluded that the complaint did not establish a breach of the Code of Conduct by any of the members and even if a breach had been disclosed, following guidance issued by Standards for England, the matter complained of was too old to be considered.”
