A new director of children’s services has been hired following the sacking of the previous boss.
The current director of children and adult services in Portsmouth, Julian Wooster, has been hired by Somerset County Council.
He will replace Rose Collinson who took on the role of director of children’s services on an interim basis in November.
Mr Wooster’s appointment comes after Peter Lewis was sacked in October after recording ‘disappointing’ results.
The council was criticised over Mr Lewis’ appointment when it was revealed he cost £318,500 in salary and agency fees.
Mr Wooster will be paid £130,000.
Council leader John Osman said: “Nothing is more important than the safety and wellbeing of our children, so we’ve been searching far and wide for the right person to lead our children’s services on a permanent basis.
“It’s well known that there is a national shortage of directors of children’s services so I am particularly delighted with the appointment we have made.”
