NORTH Somerset Council has received 7,000 calls about refuse and recycling collections since January 2.
The figure was announced at a full council meeting last night, in which it was also revealed contractors May Gurney were fined £61,000 by the council for missing collections.
The Mercury received letters from several Weston residents angry that waste collections had been days late or in some cases missed entirely over Christmas and New Year.
The council said it apologised profusely for ‘the poor service May Gurney have provided over the festive season’.
It was revealed that councillors had undertaken discussions with the director of May Gurney to ensure there would not be repeats of the problems.
